(English) Blue Hydrogen is hydrogen that meets the low-carbon threshold but is generated using non-renewable energy sources.
- Blue hydrogen is made from natural gas through the process of steam methane reforming (SMR). While CO₂ emissions are generated during SMR, CO2 and Hydrogen are separated from methane through a thermal-chemical process. CO2 is then sequestered. And as a result, managing GHG emissions annually would subsequently be more affective by means of technical abatement from the atmosphere and through market offsets. This innovation has offered consumers a more carbon-neutral product through fuel refining and fertilizer production.
- What is SMR? Steam reforming or steam methane reforming is a method for producing syngas¹ by chemical reaction of hydrocarbons with water. Commonly natural gas is the feedstock. And the main purpose for this technology is to produce hydrogen.
